New Apple iPad Now on Sale
After months of rumors, the much-hyped big reveal, and - for
some - time spent in line at various retailers, the new Apple iPad is here.
Apple opened its doors at 8am local time today in the U.S. and nine other countries this morning - Australia, Canada,
France, Germany, Hong Kong,
Japan, Singapore, Switzerland
and the U.K., along with Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Among the first people in line in Australia was iFixit co-founder
Luke Soules, who nabbed the new iPad and promptly tore it apart for the
company's traditional teardowns.
Best Buy, Radio Shack, Sam's Club, Target, and Walmart, as
well as wireless carriers AT&T and Verizon will also offer the new iPad
during regular business hours.
At least one retailer got a bit of a head start on Apple.
Walmart opened its doors at midnight with limited quantities of the new iPad in
stock.
Apple unveiled the new iPad last week during a press event
in San Francisco.
The updated tablet includes a Retina Display, 4G LTE connectivity, an improved
camera, and the new A5X processor with a quad-core GPU, among other things.
At this point, wait time for new iPads ordered via Apple.com
are at 2-3 weeks. Recently, an analyst suggested that Apple could sell more
than 1 million iPads today.
